Dr. Cherf was born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan before moving to South Bend, Indiana to complete his undergraduate studies at the University Of Notre Dame. He attended Northwestern University Medical School for his MD where he also obtained a Masters in Public Health (MPH). Dr. Cherf stayed on at Northwestern for his Internship and Residency in addition to completing an MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
John is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine and has taken care of several college and professional teams. John has over 20 years of clinical experience in sports medicine and knee surgery. He founded Midwest Orthopedic Institute, an orthopedic group with full integration of diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, ambulatory surgery and occupational medicine under one roof.
He presently practices in Chicago and was one of the founding members of the Orthopedic Department at the Neurologic and Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago. He currently serves as Chief of Orthopedics at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. As a thought leader in orthopedics, John has published in numerous peer review journals, speaks internationally and serves as an advisor and consultant to several orthopedic and health care related organizations and businesses.
Dr. Cherf specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive knee surgery and general orthopedic medicine. He also focuses on the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic occupational injuries. His outside interests include golf, downhill skiing, running and cycling.
